Home Sleep Study Procedures
Ambulatory Home Sleep Study Medicare Eligibility
Please take note of the following changes taking place from Thursday November 1st 2018
All Home Sleep Studies must be completed on the relevant referrals and will only be covered by Medicare if the patient has:
- An Epworth score of 8 or more out of 24, and
- An OSA 50 or STOPBANG score of 5 or more out of 10.
If you would like to be referred by your GP to be tested for Sleep Apnea please feel free to either use the questionnaire below to confirm your eligibility through Medicare, contact us to discuss the full fee or see your chosen doctor to have a referral completed.
We can also discuss your eligibility over the phone. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
The OSA 50 questionnaire is used to screen for the likelihood of being affected by Obstructive Sleep Apnea and if you are eligible to have a study under Medicare.
If you score more than 5 out of 10, consult your doctor to see if you need to investigate further as you may be at risk of Sleep Apnea.
The Epworth Sleepiness Scale can also be used to further determine the necessity for a Sleep Study.
The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) is a scale intended to measure daytime sleepiness that is measured by use of a short questionnaire, seen below.
Score: 1-6 = Enough sleep
Score: 7-8 = Tend to be sleepy during the day
Score: 9-15 = Excessively sleepy
Score: 16+ = Dangerously sleepy – please consult a medical professional as soon as possible
